MEA has extensive expertise in geotechnical design for harbours and marina projects which include but not limited to piers, harbours, ferry terminal, slipways, breakwaters, pontoons, and coastal protection. Offering professional consultancy services, incorporating the specific skills required for effective and economical geotechnical design.

Close interaction with the client is essential for efficient design of marine infrastructure. A comprehensive site-specific assessment has to be made of the prevailing marine and geotechnical conditions as well as assessing the residual strength of any existing structures. Marine structural surveys are often needed to examine existing structures with elements in concrete and steel, both of which can deteriorate significantly when exposed to marine conditions.

Ballanaleck Marina

110-berth marina at Bellanaleck Quay was improved by the widening of the existing slipway, new quay wall, incorporating fixed mooring and a new 16 berth floating mooring also incorporating a toilet block and changing facilities.

These improvements made the quay more appealing to tourist and locals alike as the works would allow easier access to not only the extensive waterways but as the quay is an integral spot in the local community, as it is only a few minutes walk to the village of Ballanaleck.

Camlough Dam

Camlough Dam project involved strengthening the reservoir embankment to provide extra security in the event of heavy rainfall and the construction of a valve tower to control flows from the lake. This project consisted of refurbishing and upgrading of an existing embankment and spillway. The construction of a new Draw-off tower within the lake, installation of permanent sheet piles and grouting between the base of the sheet piles and rock.

A new reinforced concrete overflow weir, spillway and stilling basin were also constructed. A new wave wall formed along the crest and the size profile of the dam was increased. This project was designed to improve the facilities main purpose but in addition it has enhanced recreational and tourism resource for the future.
