Bridges are structures that span horizontally between supports, whose function is to carry vertical loads. The prototypical bridge is quite simple — two supports holding up a beam — yet the engineering problems that must be solved even in this simple form are real in every bridge: the supports must be strong enough to hold the structure up, and yet the extent between supports must be strong enough to carry the loads. MEA’s team thrive with these challenges and work in conjunction with others to provide the most practical and dynamic solution to the design process.

FlexiArch Bridges

With extensive experience and knowledge, MEA are able to provide a comprehensive FlexiArch bridge design and construction package. Individual precast concrete blocks can be shipped and erected across the world and are designed to suit a range of applications and come in a variety of spans dependent on design requirements. The flexiArch is a patented arch bridge system developed by Queen’s University Belfast and partner Macrete.

Odense FlexiArch Bridge

Odense is the third largest city in Denmark and MEA are proud to be part of their wonderful culture of walkways and cycle paths through the city. MEA’s innovative style allowed them to be part of the beautiful creation that is the flexiarch bridge in the heart of Odense city.

Consultation with MEA resulted in a beautiful new green coloured fabricated steel single span 27m-long footbridge known as the ‘Summerfield Footbridge’, which will allow patrons, for generations to come, to enjoy the beauty of this wonderful parkland in the heart of Northern Ireland.

Summerfield Footbridge

Summerfield Footbridge – A Bow String Arch Bridge

The Ecos Centre in Ballymena is 220 acres of parkland that includes maturing woodland, peaceful lake and ponds, wet grasslands and meadows, the foot bridge which crosses the River Braid was no longer fit for purpose, after an inspection it was discovered that rot in the structure made it unsafe and so there was a necessity to replace the old wooden structure.
